Phone lockout

There are no less than three passwords that you can lose for the WIP330. There is a password/login required to access the GUI webpages and there are also User and Admin passwords optionally required to access the phone on bootup. All the passwords can be set from the GUI with the Admin/User passwords from both the GUI and phone handset.

This page deals only with losing the phone password which locks you out when the phone starts up.

With most devices there is a way of factory resetting the phone back to the default passwords, but not with the WIP330, so far as I am aware. I am sure that a backdoor was set when the phone was designed as this is standard practice but no one at Linksys seems to know it.

Your only hope would be if you only set the one password and left the other password to default. (You can set both passwords on the phone password handset settings page.)

Try this to toggle between the User and Admin passwords at boot up.

1. Power cycle the phone
2. Screen will prompt you to enter user password, press dial button for 3 seconds, the prompt will change asking you for admin password. Enter 0000 or admin (this is the default depending on the firmware version)
3. You should be able to use the phone.

If that works then go at once to the Password settings page and change the User password, write it down and then unless you really need to use it, disable the password option.

Another (Possible) solution...

It may be possible to access the
/WIP330/SysSet.INI file on the WIP via Windows CE with the USB driver (Windows XP only) as all the passwords can be found on that file. I need to test this first.
