The Mystery Button.
Firstly, everyone asks the purpose of the button above the volume controls on the left had side of the phone. It seems to serve no purpose but it was clearly put there for a reason. But what?

So far as I can discover it was originally designed to switch the speakerphone off and on. What speakerphone? The audio grill can be found on the back of the phone and sometimes it is mentioned in the WIP330 literature but it does not and never has functioned. Why such an obvious and simple feature was left out only Linksys can say.

The only surviving function of the button is to expand or contract the onscreen clock when running the Skype application in early firmware versions. Test it, it still works...

Denial Of Service Vulnerability

Linksys WIP330 'PhoneCtrl.exe' is prone to a denial-of-service vulnerability when the device is full port-range scanning. Exploiting this issue allows remote attackers to crash and reboot affected devices, denying service to legitimate users. Linksys WIP330 firmware version 1.00.06a is affected by this issue; other versions may also be affected. To trigger this issue, attackers can use the 'nmap' utility.

Internet Radio Player

You can use the WIP330 an an internet radio player - although unless you are one of the fortunate few witha headset you will lose out somewhat in sound quality. For example. adding this url as a bookmark with the default port 80 will give you a live stream of Radio Rebelde, a domestic radio station from Havana, Cuba: http://media.enet.cu/radiorebelde

Hack # 1
How to force the WIP330 to start in User or Admin mode.

Copy from the WIP330: /WIP330/SysSet.INI to your PC and using a text editor change the following and then copy it back.

For admin mode:
[PhonePassword]
Skip=0
Force Admin Mode=1

For user mode:
[PhonePassword]
Skip=0
Force Admin Mode=0

Look, don't do this or any other hack unless you know what you are doing as bad things can happen if you get it wrong...

My Absolutely TopSecret Password

The //WIP330/SysSet.INI file in the WIP330 OS contains the following password variables:

Advance User Password=MyAbsolutelyTopSecretPassword
Skip=0
Enable=0
Password=MyAbsolutelyTopSecretPassword
Engineer Password=MyAbsolutelyTopSecretPassword
force admin mode=0

This may be useful for the hackers amongst us to resolve lockout issues.
